As a first step, to use the connector, activate the option Activate link tracking on Google Analytics.
This option allows you to track accesses coming from the newsletter channel on Google Analytics for the domains you specify.
- Even if the connector is installed correctly, if you do not activate this option, no statistics will be recorded.
- If you do not have an active Google Analytics account for each domain you want to analyze, no information will be recorded.
Enabled domains
Indicate, in the Enabled Domains field, the domain or domains of the sites tracked by Google Analytics which your newsletters will point to (one domain per line).
- For a site like http://www.domain.com enter the value
www.domain.com
. - For a site like http://demo.domain.com enter
demo.domain.com
or, to track all subdomains, the value.domain.com
There is no limit to the number of domains you can insert, modify, or delete at any time.
UTM customization
Once domain configuration is complete, you should proceed with UTM customization.
The connector is configured so that the parameters automatically tracked by Google Analytics are:
- Medium: (utm_medium) the channel of the message, email or SMS
- Source: (utm_source) by default its value is MagNews
- Campaign: (utm_campaign) name of the campaign
- Details: (utm_content) Delivery identifier and newsletter, send date of the delivery
- Content: (utm_term) information about the link through which the landing page was reached, such as an article from the newsletter
These parameters are already configured in the URL Parameters: section.
On the left column is the parameter Name; on the right, its Value, which can be:
- Fixed: the value must be written directly, as in the case of email and MagNews
- Parameterized:the value is represented by a placeholder enclosed in square brackets (e.g.,
[campaign:name]
)
Besides the default proposed values, you can add more by clicking on the Add Params button which will add a new line where you can define the new parameter name and its value.
Once configuration is complete, click on the Save button at the top right to save the settings.
Here is the list of placeholders you can use in the UTM customization:
[delivery:iddelivery]
[delivery:sentdate]
[newsletter:idnewsletter]
[newsletter:name]
[message:channel]
[message:fromemail]
[message:fromname]
[message:subject]

[content:name]
[contact:idcontact]
[contact:iddatabase]
[contact:email]
[contact:nome_utente]
[var:campaignvar]
[newsletterproperties:customfield1]
[workflowproperties:name]
To restore the connector's default values, removing any customized values, click on the Reset to default button.
Once configuration is finished, click the Save button on the top right of the page, and Analytics will start tracking your channel accesses which will be available on your Google account.
