In a journey there are many settings and customisations that can be made to optimise the use of the journey and the assets belonging to it.
The journey setup is divided into several parts.
Main settings
In the Main tab you can indicate the name of the journey, enter notes for other users of the magnews account, select a category (useful if you need reports from several journeys together).
Multilanguage communications
The main language for contacts you indicate here will be the default language for all assets you create within the journey.
If you enable multilanguage communications, you can indicate which languages, in addition to the main language, will be activated in new communications.
Communications settings and defaults
The options chosen concern options that are reflected in the communications created in the journey, they are therefore settings that are used as defaults.
Settings
Find the settings on sending channels, if your account is multi-channel (e.g. SMS), you can choose which channel to have as default when creating a new communication.
You can lock the choice of channels to the one made here, so that other users are not allowed to choose a different channel.
You can also define the possibilities for creating communications (from template, from import ...) and ensure that creation is limited to the possibilities set.
Default
It contains default options such as subject or sender that will be the default for newly created communications. You can also indicate a conditional subject.
Consider that the subject is an important element in determining the opening of emails, so it is preferable to look for a specific, catchy subject and not just use the same text over and over again.
Recipients
From this page you can set a default target, which will then be pre-filled in new communications: audience or database and additional filters to be run. You can also lock the target in case you do not want it to be changed when sending by another user.
Some ‘anti-stress’ settings can also be chosen, i.e. the possibility of sending only one email even if the address appears several times within the target, or limiting the sending frequency to contacts to avoid sending them too many communications.
Sends
This tab contains important settings concerning the sending phase of communications.
- Report by email: you can receive a summary report by email after a certain number of days from each delivery.
- Copy of communication: you can receive a test of the communication together with the delivery confirmation by email.
- Approval: you can activate the sending approval request, i.e. choose who are the people who have to authorise the sending; they will be sent the request by email which they must authorise before the user can send.
- Sending speed: you can limit the sending speed, if for example the sending is very voluminous and the sender has special requirements. The speed is indicated in messages sent per hour (must be a multiple of 60 and will be rounded down).
- Test sendings: you can indicate test recipients which you will find pre-filled when you make a test sendings (but you can always replace or change them).
Advanced options
Send options
You may indicate a default web domain for communication links. You may also indicate whether you do not wish to record statistics of openings for this journey.
CSS and images
Options on styles to include and embedded images are only to be used in special cases.
Embedded images are visible even if the contact is offline, but they make emails heavier to download and some mail or webmail clients may reject them or consider them as spam.
Headers
Here you can change the encoding of emails, which by default are in the International encoding (UTF-8), and possibly add customised headers to the emails sent from the journey. If you have no special requirements regarding the display of special characters or non-Latin alphabets, it is advisable to keep the default encoding.
Text version
By default, the text version of the email is included in multipart mailings (i.e. when sending the HTML email, the text version is also included). It is possible here to indicate not to include it or to insert a fixed text that replaces the text version of the email.
KPI
By activating the filters on the journey, in the contact lists you will find filters for the report data of this journey (e.g. on openings or clicks).
Report
You can set the KPIs against which the communication is compared (e.g. click rate or conversion rate).
In the reports the values of the communication are compared with the previous communication, here you can change this setting to compare with the average of the journey or have no comparison at all.
Variables
Here you find the journey variables, an element that allows advanced activities.
You will also find the list of brand kit variables, i.e. colours and other customised settings for the journey. These variables in particular are set automatically when you edit the brand kit, so we advise you not to make any changes to them.
Settings for the web
Basic
In this tab you will find the main settings for the web.
The web domain for permalinks is the domain that will be used for links in communications.
You can choose to have customised error pages, instead of the default magnews pages, by choosing an external page or the page of a landing page you have created.
The configurations for Google reCAPTCHA allow you to enter the secret keys provided by Google in order to use reCAPTCHA in the web pages created with magnews.
Advanced
These are very advanced settings concerning the web part of your account.
Styles
On this page, you can customise the CSS code that is inserted in legacy web pages and contact flow pages.
It is not used in landing pages and on-site messages, which have their own defined style.
Search engines
You can set special options for search engines:
- A script to be inserted on pages for Google Analytics
- A robot.txt file
- A sitemap.gz file
Copy of the journey setup
If you want to create a new journey with the same settings, use the ‘Copy journey setup’ function on the journey home page.
You will be asked for the name of the new journey to be created, into which all the fields described above will be copied.
The brand kit of the journey will also be copied, i.e. logos, colours, fonts ...
