The web domain is a functional entity of magnews used to generate and personalize the links in landing pages, emails, and SMS messages.
Usage contexts
The web domain is used in the following contexts:
- Email and SMS communication channels
- Web
Email and SMS communication channels
To delve into the importance of the web domain for Email and SMS communication channels, let's start by observing more closely the role of magnews in link click tracking.
Magnews replaces the links you insert in Email and SMS communications with others constructed from the web domain. When a contact receives an email or an SMS and clicks on a link, they are first redirected to the link generated by magnews, then to our servers, and finally to the destination web page. This step allows magnews to track the contact's click.
In emails, your contacts can see the link generated by magnews when they hover over the link.
In SMS, if you have enabled link tracking, the link is displayed clearly in the text.
Web
The web domain is also used to generate and personalize the links of landing pages created in magnews.
Once you have activated the landing page, making it visible and public, among the information you will find on the home of your landing page is the main link to access it. You can share this link, for example, to show a preview to someone who doesn't have account access.
The link is constructed from the web domain.
Use a custom web domain
When opening a new magnews account, we set by default a web domain owned by us, which typically has the structure accountname.magnews.net, and with an SSL certificate to generate links in https and ensure connection security for your contacts.
Consequently, all links generated by magnews will begin with https://accountname.magnews.net
This is what a contact might see, for example, when hovering over links generated from a magnews web domain.
If you configure a custom web domain, the links will show your domain instead of the default magnews web domain. The links will align with your sending domain, brand, product, and service.
Ideal features of a custom web domain
The ideal web domain is:
- a subdomain of your sending domain for email communications
- a subdomain of the domain representing your company, brand, product, or service online, for SMS or landing page communications
- with an SSL certificate so the links are in https and provide the contact a secure connection
Benefits of using a custom web domain
Using a custom web domain is beneficial because it increases your contacts' trust in the communications you send them. Recognizing your domain in the links, they are more likely to click safely on the link and won't incorrectly perceive it as a fraudulent or phishing email.
Additionally, most email providers and anti-spam systems also check the domains of links, their reputation, and whether they're listed in public blacklists.
Utilizing a shared web domain can therefore expose you to risks. It might temporarily acquire a low reputation or be listed in a blacklist due to sending by other clients. In such a case, even the correct delivery of your emails would be compromised: they could be classified as spam or blocked, not reaching your contacts' inboxes.
We are committed to constantly monitoring the health of our domains. However, we recommend that you use your own domain, which has its own reputation determined exclusively by your activities.
