This article describes what information is collected through the email tracking features available in magnews, to support drafting the privacy notice for the recipients of your communications.
Tracked events
Email open
An open of a specific email is detected via a tracking pixel embedded in the message.
The event is recorded when the recipient’s email client downloads the email’s remote content.
Link clicks
Clicks are detected via a redirect system applied to the links in the email.
Each recorded click is associated with the specific link selected by the recipient.
Information collected for each event
For each open or click, technical information associated with the event may be recorded, including:
- event timestamp
- IP address
- user agent
- device and operating system information (device/OS)
Derived or enriched information
Based on the collected events, the platform may process or derive additional information, possibly combined with data already present in the platform.
For example:
- approximate geolocation based on IP address
- recipient engagement level
- interests or content preferences based on recorded clicks
- information related to the unsubscribe associated with a specific link
Considerations on open tracking
Open detection depends on the behavior of the email client used by the recipient.
Some email clients or privacy protection systems may:
- automatically block the tracking pixel
- preload images
- alter or limit the accuracy of open data
For this reason, open data may not precisely represent the recipient’s actual behavior.
Web tracking and cookies
If the Web Experience/Web Tracking feature is used, additional technical or tracking cookies may be set.
