Signup forms let you collect new contacts through your website and save them in the magnews database. You can customize their appearance, choose when to show them to visitors, and decide which information to collect during the subscription process.
Where to find them
You can create and manage all signup forms from:
Profile Studio > Signup forms
From this section, you can:
- View the complete list of forms
- Check their status
- Create a new form
- Edit an existing form
- Duplicate or delete a form
When to use them
Use a signup form when you want to let visitors to your website sign up and become new contacts in your database.
For example, you can use it to:
- Subscribe new contacts to your communications
- Collect consent for marketing communications
- Collect information such as name, email address, or preferences
- Add the form to a page on your website
Each form can be customized in its design and configured using the options available in your account, from basic settings to more advanced display rules.
Single opt-in or double opt-in subscription?
When designing your form, you should also decide how to manage new contact subscriptions. You can choose between single opt-in and double opt-in, two approaches that affect the subscription journey and the quality of the contacts you collect.

How a signup form works
In most cases, these four steps are all you need to publish a form on your website:
- Create the form
- Customize its design and content
- Associate it with a web property and configure the settings
- Activate it
If the associated web property is already installed and active on the website, activating the form is enough to make it immediately available according to the display rules you configured.
If the form does not appear on the website after activation, the issue is usually related to the web property configuration or the display rules. See the Web Experience troubleshooting page.
Signup forms or on site messages?
Signup forms and on site messages use the same editor and share many features. If you are wondering which one to choose, the main difference is their purpose.
Signup forms are designed to collect new contacts and manage the subscription process.
On site messages, on the other hand, are designed to show contextual communications while visitors browse your website, such as promotions, notices, or informational content.
If your goal is to acquire new contacts, we recommend using a signup form. If you want to show content to visitors while they browse your website, learn how to create and use an on site message.
