The web domain is a functional entity of Magnews used to generate and personalize the links of landing pages, emails, and SMS.
Learn the necessary steps for its correct configuration in this article.
Choose the web domain
The ideal web domain is:
-
a subdomain of your sending domain in the case of email communications;
-
a subdomain of the domain representing your company, brand, product, or service online, in the case of SMS communications or landing page.
Some of the most chosen subdomains are: mn, news, newsletter, dem, web, m, marketing, nl, email.
Suppose your company is called Example and your company or sending domain is example.com, your web domain could be the subdomain mn.example.com.
Configure the web domain with your DNS provider
-
Access the DNS provider that hosts your company or sending domain (e.g., GoDaddy, Aruba)
-
Go to the section where the DNS records are set
-
Add a new DNS record with these values:
-
Type: CNAME
-
Name or Host: mn (or another subdomain/third level that you have chosen)
-
Value: fe-mn1.magnews.net
-
If you are not self-sufficient in this activity, ask for help from your DNS provider support or your IT department or whoever manages the DNS configurations of your domain.
DNS provider
Below, we list the main DNS providers and for each, the link to their support pages on how to set DNS records:
Create the web domain in magnews
Access the web domains section by following the path Settings > Brand Protection > Web Domains
On the page to create a new web domain, enter the chosen web domain and click "Create Web Domain".
Summary section
Here, a summary of the configurations related to the web domain is provided, and any errors for your web domain are highlighted, with some instructions on how to correct them.
The Check usage button allows you to know where and how you have used the web domain, especially if you wish to delete or replace it. If the domain is new, no occurrences will be found.
Here, you configure the domains that must respond to the platform's web domain.
-
The main domain is the domain we use to generate links when you select this as the web domain (for example, in communications and landing pages).
-
In other domains you can specify the names of the other domains that must also respond (separated by return).
Example: if you specify as the main domain mn.example.com and in other domains mn2.example.com, we will compose all your communication links with https://mn.example.com/page, but the link https://mn2.example.com/page will still work and lead to the same page.
It is necessary to create a DNS record in the DNS Provider for both the main domain and the other secondary domains.
Security section
Here you can generate an SSL Certificate for your web domain from the Certificate Authority Let's Encrypt and enable HTTPS link generation to ensure your contacts have a secure connection.
Follow these few steps:
- Activate the Generate links in HTTPS option and click on Save web domain
- From the Domain Certification window, click Create Certificate
The SSL certificate generation process can take up to 15 minutes, so in the Summary section, you will see a temporary message indicating that the SSL certificate for your web domain is being created.
Once the SSL certificate is ready, you will see a positive result and a new message indicating that the connection to your web domain is secure.
Shortlink section
Here you can choose to enable the web domain for SMS tracking.
If you activate this option, all links inserted in SMS will be transformed into shortlinks and counted in communication and journey reports.
For security reasons, the generated shortlinks expire after a few days.
You can choose which page to display to the contact who clicks after the shortlink expires.
If you choose to display "none," the contact will see a generic "page not found" error.
