The typical scenario addressed is working on a draft of a communication using an outdated template. For example, magnews updates the Inspire template to a new version, and you are working on drafts that use the previous version. In such cases, from now on, when you're in the email designer, a message will appear indicating that a more updated version of the template you are using is available.
You can choose whether to update the communication or not: if you proceed with the update, you'll be asked for confirmation if the update might cause you to lose any content. The message also advises making a copy of the email before proceeding, so you have a backup if needed. This system applies to both magnews standard templates and customized templates.
Custom Template Versioning
In the list of custom templates, a column indicating the version has been added (Journey Lab > Template > Communication). When you update a template already existing on the platform, you'll be asked if the update version is major or minor:
- Major: Choose this option if the changes to the template are significant enough that updating the template in the communication might cause data loss or make some content invisible.
- Minor: Choose this option if the changes are minor, meaning the email update does not result in the loss of elements or content. With a Minor update, users will not be prompted to update the template as described above, because the activity will always be performed automatically, posing no risks.
