Before starting
Enable the languages you want to use in email communications. Usually, magnews is configured in Italian; you just need to access the settings to enable additional languages that you can use for your communications.
Configure languages
Access Journey Lab > Settings > Default Settings and click the Edit button located at the top right.
In the Languages section of the window that opens, activate multilingual support and select the languages you are interested in.
You can now associate one of the activated languages with your contacts and use them in communications.
Didn't find the languages you were looking for?
Magnews natively supports more than 30 languages. However, possible localizations like the British and American variants of English are not available for these languages.
International character support
Email communications use an extended character encoding called UTF-8.
In addition to Latin alphabet characters, the encoding allows for the representation of Arabic, Chinese, and Russian alphabet characters.
There are no limits to the characters you can represent in magnews emails.
SMS messages also support an extended encoding. Due to the characteristics of the SMS channel, using extended encoding reduces the number of available characters. Compared to the usual 160 characters, a message with extended encoding is reduced to 70 characters. Don't worry if you need more space, you can leverage the message concatenation capabilities of magnews.
Create a multilingual communication
From the communication setup, activate multilingual management.
Select the default language and additional ones.
Targeted contacts will receive the communication in the language associated in their profile. You don't need to create different targets, it's automatically managed by magnews.
What does the default language mean?
The default language has two purposes:
- During the design phase, it is the starting point from which magnews automatically translates. It is generally the language in which contents are created.
- At the time of sending, it is the language used for all contacts that do not have an assigned language.
Translate the content
Create the texts in the default language and let magnews handle the translation.
What is the great advantage?
The translated texts retain all the HTML formatting: bold, font sizes, links. If you use an external translation tool, you might lose the formatting and compromise the final layout.
With magnews, you can get the translation of the subject and email text in just one click.
Not just texts
The translation applies broadly to non-textual contents as well.
You can upload the English version of an image if there is text overlaid. Or you can diversify the links, such as the landing page if your brand has different home pages for each nation.
