With a multilingual communication, you can send the same email to contacts who use different languages.
Magnews uses each contact’s assigned language to choose which version to send, without requiring separate targets.
Before you begin, check that multilingual support is enabled in your account.
Configure the communication languages
If you have configured default additional languages for new assets in the journey, the communication is created with those settings. Otherwise, it is created without a specified language, even if multilingual support is enabled in your account.
In the communication setup, enable the “Multilanguage email” toggle to choose from the languages enabled in your account:
- The main language, in which you prepare the original content
- Any additional languages into which you want to translate the communication
The main language is the starting point for automatic translations. It is also used for contacts with no language set, meaning their language field is empty, and for contacts whose language is not included in the communication languages.
For example, if you choose English as the main language and add Italian as an additional language:
- Italian-speaking contacts receive the Italian version
- English-speaking contacts, contacts with no language set, and all other contacts receive the English version
Translate the content
Prepare the communication in the main language, then open the translation page from the communication home or the designer using the Translate button.
You can use magnews automatic translation to translate the subject line and communication text into the additional languages. Translation preserves HTML formatting, such as bold text, font sizes, and links, so you do not need to rebuild the layout.
Then review the translated text to check that the terminology, tone, and meaning are appropriate for your recipients.
More than text
Multilingual management also applies to non-text content, allowing you to use different images and links for each language.
For example, you can:
- Replace an image containing Italian text with its English version
- Set different links to direct contacts to the version of your website in their language
Check non-text elements too: translating the email text does not change text embedded in images or the content of linked pages.
Export text for review
From the translation section, you can export a .csv file containing the original text and translations into the other languages.
Use it to share the content with language reviewers and collect edits before sending.
Check each version before sending
You can check the result in several ways:
- Select a contact in the preview whose assigned language matches the one you want to check
- Use advanced simulation to check specific cases and personalizations
- Open the web version using the links on the communication home, where you will find a link for each configured language
If you want to check a translation, opening the web version in that language is often the quickest option.
