Visibility conditions let you show an email section or element only to contacts who meet specific criteria. Use them to recommend products based on interests, offer customer-only promotions, or personalize an invitation. This lets you create a single communication with different content for each recipient.
Set a visibility condition
You can define who sees your content using contact fields, contact information, and statistical data.
- In the email designer, select the section or element you want to personalize.
- Click the eye icon to open the visibility panel.
- Enable Show only to certain contacts.
- Click Add condition.
- Choose the field on which to base the condition, set the operator, and specify the value to check.
The available options depend on the field type. For example:
- Single selection: choose one or more of the available values.
- Boolean: choose whether the value must be true or false.
- Text: choose an operator, such as Equal to, Not equal to, or Contains, and enter the value.
- Text, date, or number: you can also check whether the field is empty or not empty.
To combine multiple criteria for the same content, click Add condition again. You can also use fields from different categories, such as a contact field and a statistical field.
When a visibility condition is active, the eye icon turns green, helping you identify content in the designer that is visible only to certain contacts.
Show different content based on interests
Suppose you want to promote two music events: one dedicated to jazz and one to rock. Your database has a Favorite genre field that stores this information.
- Add both sections to the email: one for the jazz event and one for the rock event.
- Open the visibility panel for the jazz section and enable Show only to certain contacts.
- Add a condition on the Favorite genre field, choose the Equal to operator, and select Jazz.
- Repeat these steps for the rock section, setting the value to Rock.
Each contact will see the section that matches the value in their Favorite genre field.
The conditions for the two sections are independent.
A contact who meets neither condition will see neither section. Keep this in mind when preparing your email: make essential information visible to everyone and consider alternative content for contacts who have not yet specified a preference.
Recommend products based on clicked tags
You can also personalize content based on the interests contacts have shown by clicking in your communications.
Content tags let you classify content by topic. If you use them, you can show a section to contacts who have recently clicked content associated with specific tags.
For example, if you have assigned the Hiking tag to content about hiking, you can recommend shoes and backpacks to contacts who have recently clicked that content.
- Add the section containing the products you want to recommend to the email.
- Open the visibility panel and enable Show only to certain contacts.
- Click Add condition and choose Statistical field.
- Select Recently clicked tags.
- Choose the tag on which to base the condition. You can also select multiple tags.
Edit or disable conditions
To edit a condition, select the content and reopen the visibility panel. You can change the criteria, add new ones, or remove those you no longer need.
If you prefer to write the expression directly, switch to code mode using the Code link next to Add condition. You can return to the guided configuration using the Editor link.
To make the content visible to all recipients again, disable Show only to certain contacts.
