Learn how to import new contacts when the mobile number is the database key.
Before you start
If you haven’t done it yet, enable the SMS channel to send messages to your contacts. Contact your magnews point of reference to activate it.
Also, do you already have an SMS sender configured and in use? Each country has its own regulations for automated SMS sending. For example, check the requirements in Italy defined by AGCOM.
Accepted format for mobile numbers
Magnews only allows you to import mobile numbers that are correctly formatted according to the following rules:
- They must include a valid international prefix, made up of the + symbol followed by the country code, for example +39 for Italy
- They must not contain spaces
- They must not contain letters or symbols other than the + symbol
For example:
- +390544123456789 is correctly formatted
- 0544123456789 is not accepted because it doesn’t include the international prefix
- +39 0544 123456789 is not accepted because it contains spaces
- +39-0544-123456789 is not accepted because it contains unsupported symbols such as -
- +39a0544f123456789 is not accepted because it contains letters
Import and options
The import and configuration process follows the same steps described on the page dedicated to importing contacts with an email address.
In this case, managing the imported mobile numbers becomes especially important, particularly if you’re not sure they’ve been formatted correctly.
You can choose which operation to apply using these two options available in the Preferences section:
- Strict validation: all numbers without a valid international prefix or containing characters other than digits and/or the plus symbol (+) are discarded
- Automatic recovery: all invalid characters are automatically removed, and any numbers without an international prefix are completed using the prefix defined in the database settings. If no prefix is configured, the one from the general database settings is used
