Learn the steps required to complete the permanent deletion of contacts.
Why delete contacts?
Deleting contacts may be necessary for a number of reasons, such as:
- To fall within usage limits, specifically within the contact threshold set for your plan.
- Fulfilling requests from contacts or complying with privacy obligations regarding data processing.
How to select and delete contacts
Access the “Profile Studio” menu and click on the name of the database where the contacts you want to delete are located.
Filters contacts by status and/or according to the enhancement of specific fields.
Proceed to select contacts (e.g., unsubscribed only), either one by one or with the massive select option.
From the “Actions” button, then select the “Delete definitively” item.
A window appears that reports:
- The number of contacts selected for deletion.
- A description informing about the inability to restore the contacts, once deleted
- Any interactions and responses with other elements of magnews, such as landing pages, onsite messages, and any workflow sessions, will also be deleted.
By default, an option is enabled that provides a file containing the data of the deleted contacts when the operation is completed. This file can be useful as a verification backup of the completed operation.
In addition, there are some options related to blacklisting, should you wish to put the contacts (email and/or mobile number) on the list of addresses/numbers not to be contacted in the future.
After checking all aspects related to the current action, click on “Start activity” to complete it.
Since the activity is sensitive and-once completed-uncancellable, a confirmation request screen appears. With the “Delete Contacts” button, the action of permanently deleting contacts is in effect completed.
A final screen reports the outcome of the task and makes available the file containing information about the deleted contacts
Please note: following the final deletion of contacts, only aggregate statistics data remain available in the platform, while detailed data are no longer queryable, as it is no longer possible to trace who performed certain actions (e.g., opens, clicks, conversions).
